The outline

5 chapters, and what each one is doing.

Nothing is held back here. Build it with CreateEbook or build it in a word processor — the structure is the useful part.

  1. How to use this

One page. What the checklist covers, who it is for, and how long a full pass takes. Set the expectation and get out of the way.

  2. Before you start

The handful of decisions that make every later item answerable. Put the thinking here so the rest can be pure execution.

  3. The checklist itself

Grouped in fours or fives, each item a single instruction with one line underneath saying why it matters and what going wrong looks like.

  4. The five people get wrong

Take the items that are most often skipped and give each a paragraph. This is the section that makes a checklist worth keeping.

  5. The one-page version

The whole list, stripped of commentary, set to print on a single sheet. This page is the reason the file gets printed and pinned up.

Why this shape works

Three reasons, plainly.

  • It is the lowest-effort yes on the internet: nobody hesitates over a checklist the way they hesitate over a 40-page guide.

  • The one-line reason under each item is what separates a useful checklist from a listicle, and it costs you an afternoon.

  • A printable last page keeps your name on a wall, which no email sequence can buy.

Starting points

Three openings you can paste straight in.

Step one asks what your book should teach. Here is what a good answer looks like for this template — specific enough that the outline comes back usable.

  • Everything to check before a product launch announcement goes out
  • The forty things a new client onboarding should cover, in order
  • A pre-flight checklist for a website redesign
